San Francisco Road Trip (Part 2 of 3)

~Visited Coit Tower:

Located in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood of SF, CA, in the city's Pioneer Park. Tower was built in 1933 as a legacy of Lillie Hitchcock Coit to beautify the city of SF. Took about 4 years to build.

Before December 1866 there wasn't a fire department established near this community; fires were extinguished by several volunteer fire companies. When Lillie Hitchcock Coit was about 15 years-old, she witnessed the Knickerbocker Engine Co. No. 5 respond to a fire call near Telegraph Hill. Seeing that the firefighters were shorthanded she pitched in to help while calling other bystanders to do the same. She established a special relationship with the city's firefighters and was frequently seen riding in the street parades on the Engine Co. No. 5.

She established in her will that a third of her fortune was to be spent adding "beauty" to SF. Two memorials were built in her name: The Coit Tower and a sculpture of three fireman, one of them carrying a woman in his arms.

  ~ Trolleys

SF Trolley/  "Cable Cars" ^^

Had the Trolley song stuck in my head:  [Meet me in St. Louis - Judy Garland]

clang, clang, clang
went the trolley
ding, ding, ding
went the bell
zing, zing, zing
went my heartstrings
from the moment
i saw him, i fell

chug, chug, chug
went the motor
bump, bump, bump
went the brake
thump, thump, thump
went my heartstrings
when he smiled,
i could feel the car shake
